When it comes to watching movies high, Fantasia can usually be found at the top of any list and for good reason. It's a film that slowly and strategically captures your imagination from orchestra, to shapes, to feelings and then finally through a story.
The movie excellently holds back before showing an actual cartoon that goes along with the music. The first piece, Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, is entirely made up of moving shapes. Every bit of it was running thoughts through my head. There was no story but it felt like there was.
As the film moves on things become a little more cut and dry but none could be more traumatizing than the Sorcerer's Apprentice. For some reason I found the broom to be a far more frightening figure than previous watches. The way it mercilessly walks and pounds its way through mickey was kind of terrifying.
The finale of Night on Bald Mountain was just as scary but is gracefully followed by the soft and easy trail of lights. The whole picture is even more of a marvel when you're high. I was actually watching this on VHS so there was another layer of nostalgia added which honestly might have enhanced the experience (I would prefer the restored HD version any day though).
There's not else for me to say about Fantasia except that is a must. You can't go wrong with it and I might even go as far as to say it should be one of the first movies to watch high if you haven't tried it yet.
